During the 1940 London Blitz, three orphans are sent to live in the small village of Pepperinge Eye with Eglantine Price, an apprentice witch. She and the children fly on a bed, activated by a magical bedknob, to London to meet the headmaster, Emelius Brown of the defunct school. Miss Price then tells them of her plan to find the magic words of a spell that will bring inanimate objects to life.
Based on the books The Magic Bed Knob; or, How to Become a Witch in Ten Easy Lessons (1943) and Bonfires and Broomsticks (1945) by Mary Norton.
