With world-class museum facilities, exhibitions and meaningful community outreach programmes, the Singapore Art Museum is the centrepiece of Singapore's art scene and community; reflecting trends in Contemporary, Modern, New Asian and International Contemporary Art. It took more than 2 years to restore and convert the 140-year-old former St. Joseph's Institution building for museum use, and to acquire works of art from notable painters and upcoming potential artists from Southeast Asia and East Asia before it was officially opened on January 20, 1996. SAM houses permanent installations and hosts travelling exhibitions, featuring works by Liu Kang and Leonardo Da Vinci. Check out the Singapore Art Museum for a quick comprehensive and interactive guide to the art culture in the region.
