Boat Quay

Address: 50 Boat Quay Singapore 046818

Getting there:
Take the MRT to Raffles Place MRT (EW14/NS26) and head towards the south bank of the Singapore River.

Description:
Boat Quay is a historical area that used to be situated upstream from the mouth of the Singapore River. It was the busiest part of the colonial Singapore, handling three quarters of all shipping business during the 1860s. Because the south bank of the river resembled the belly of a carp, which according to Chinese belief is where wealth and prosperity lie, many shophouses were built here. Boat Quay's social-economic role makes it a prime place for commerce and tourism, the 'soft front' to the hard-edged banking and financial district of Raffles Place that's located just behind it.
