Sentosa has more to offer than just fun and entertainment - it's home also to the Images of Singapore museum and cultural heritage centre. The award-winning Images of Singapore has gained a reputation for bringing Singapore's past to vivid life using a multi-screen special-effects show, multimedia presentations and life-sized tableaus depicting scenes of local history.
A multi-screen special-effects show, entitled the Four Winds of Singapore, reveals the contributions of Singapore's Chinese, Malay, Indian and Eurasian communities. Take a journey back in time and learn how Singapore's founding fathers forged a nation and weathered turbulent times through trade. In the Four Winds Trading Office, appreciate vintage furniture and discover old photographs.
Take a walk down memory lane as life-size wax dummies, film footage, dramatic lighting and sound effects bring Singapore's history to life. These scenes recreate Singapore's past, from its beginning as primitive fishing village, through its part as a Malay sultanate, the city's establishment as a port and trading centre, that has culminated in its present status as a bustling port and centre of finance and commerce. Tales related by live characters such as a Chinese coolie and Indian spice merchant, photo archives, family heirlooms and preserved artefacts add personal touches to stories being told.
Head to the Warehouse to gain deeper insight into how a budding island nation's 'Golden Wish' for Family, Community, Peace and Harmony came true, through the efforts of its people. Trigger sounds from jungle animals such as the tiger, monkey and snake by tugging on their tails in the Jungle. At the Harbour, experience first-hand the backbreaking labour of a coolie in Singapore's early days by lifting a load of cargo using a pulley. Hop onto the rickshaw along the Streets for a great photo opportunity!
The Singapore Celebrates exhibit recreates local celebrations such as Peranakan and Indian weddings, Lunar New Year, Christmas, Deepavali and Hari Raya Puasa through intricate tableaux. Learn more about cultural traditions and family ties which remain important even in modern Singapore.
Before you leave, sample a taste of local delicacies at the Tastes of Singapore restaurant, which serves local culinary delights such as chicken rice, chilli crab and laksa, as well as a signature Tastes of Singapore sampler dish. Alternatively, pick up a piece of Singapore to take home with you from the Images of Singapore shop, which offers games, garments, books and other souvenirs.
