Inaugurated by the National Arts Council, the Singapore Biennale aims to position Singapore as a leading international centre for visual arts.
Not only does it provide Singaporean visual artists and arts organisations with significant opportunities to showcase their talents, it is an occasion to cultivate deeper public engagement with the arts.
Also, the Biennale invites artists from all over the world and provide audience here the opportunity to have a wider range of artistic experiences.
The next Biennale will be held from 13 March to 15 May, 2011.
Featuring 60 artists from 30 countries, this is the 3rd Biennale since the ones held in 2006 and 2008. Titled 'Open House', the public gets to marvel and witness new commissions and new works created by more than half of the participating artists.
Helmed by the curatorial team of Matthew Ngui (Artistic Director), Russel Storer (Head of Asian and Pacific Art at the Queensland Art Gallery) and Trevor Smith (Curator of Contemporary Art at the Peabody Essex Museum, USA), the 2011 edition promises to be a whole new adventure for art lovers and observers alike.
