Fuk Tak Chi Temple, located on Telok Ayer Street, is one of the oldest Chinese temple in Singapore. Built in the 1820s by the Hakka and Cantonese communities, the temple was devoted to the deity Tua Peh Kong. Besides serving religious purposes, the Fuk Tak Chi Temple also served as the headquarters for the Hakka and Cantonese communities in Singapore.

It was converted into a museum in 1998. This 184-year-old temple and museum now holds artifacts that depict the immigrant life of early Singaporeans. From hawker licenses, Chinese storybooks, lottery tickets and paintings, catch a glimpse of what it was like for the people here living in the early days before World War II and during the war.
