Visit one of three untouched nature reserves to see the area teeming with wildlife. Arguably the most popular nature reserve in Singapore, Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is also the home of the highest hill in Singapore.

The 163-hectare reserve is one of the largest tracts of primary rainforest still remaining in Singapore, containing more plant species than those found in all of North America, according to renowned conservationist David Bellamy.

Bukit Timah Hill, Singapore's highest hill, stands at 163.63m high and was once an active quarrying site in the mid-1900s, is composed mainly of granite. One such site has become the Hindhede Nature Park, a sight for visitors to enjoy its scenic beauty and try out the challenging play equipment.

Bukit Timah Nature Reserve was one of the first forest reserves in Singapore, gazetted under the recommendation of the government of the Straits Settlements. It was established in 1883 and received further protection under the Nature Reserves Ordinance in 1951, under the National Parks Act.

Under the recommendation of the then-Superintendent of the Botanic Gardens, Nathaniel Cantley, the Bukit Timah area was gazetted as a national reserve. Even after the rest of the reserves had been worked over for its timber, the Bukit Timah nature reserve still remained intact. The reserve remained unmolested even when the rest of the reserves had been depleted in 1937. This was done in part to preserve the local plant ecosystem. It was one of three nature reserves that resisted the depletion of its reserves.

Check out the nature reserve for a glimpse of the local wildlife and exotic flora and fauna. Scale Singapore's highest hill and capture amazing views of urban Singapore from the top.
