River Hong Bao

By: christine on 12 Mar 2013
Watch a dazzling light show at the Singapore River Hongbao, a yearly themed event held since 1986 in conjunction with the Lunar New Year festivities and learn more about the Chinese customs. The Lunar New Year, or Chinese New Year, is one of the largest cultural celebrations for the Chinese in Singapore.

From 8th to 16th of February 2013, this event will be hosted at The Float @ Marina Bay.

Check out cultural performances by agile Chinese acrobats, intriguing performances by opera troupes and local and foreign artistes who are lined-up for most of the nights.

Sample Chinese cuisine from the range of food stalls set up, while watching calligraphy demonstrations, riddle guessing games and buying handicrafts. Immerse yourself in Chinese New Year customs from throwing a coin to knock off a blessing at the Golden Tree of Wishes, to buying intricate Chinese paper cut decorations made out of lucky red paper.

Singapore River Hongbao really comes alive after sunset. Dozens of exquisitely designed lanterns on display are lighted up. Lanterns are formed in various shapes and sizes, resembling the God of Fortune, the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac as well as other culturally significant creatures.

With such a plethora of festivities to sample and experience, this is a Chinese New Year experience you wouldn’t want to miss.
