One of Singapore's newest nature walks, the Southern Ridges not only work up a sweat, but also feature amazing views of the southern side of Singapore.

Spanning over four major parks in Singapore, the Southern Ridges is a 9-kilometre walk extending through impressive futuristic bridges, which encompass the southern ridges of Singapore. A thrill for nature-lovers and jogging fanatics alike, the green open spaces mixes a panoramic cityscape view of Singapore with a host of wild plants and birds through its Hilltop, Canopy and Forest Walks.

The entire journey takes an estimated 5-6 hours to complete, depending on your walking speed. You can also opt to disembark at different entry points. Start at Harbourfront MRT's Exit D and walk up the trail to Mount Faber. This Marang Trail can be moderately challenging for children, the elderly and even the less fit since the steep trail leads up to a peak at about 24 storeys high and is unlit to avoid disturbing the natural wildlife.

Once you've reached the peak, catch your breath and stroll through the Faber Walk and catch a glimpse of the Southern Islands, with landmarks such as The Merlion Sculpture and the Danish Seaman's Church.

Step onto the Henderson Waves, Singapore's highest pedestrian bridge. This magnificent 36-metre high bridge attracts runners, photographers and families, with its distinctive wave-like structure and curved 'ribs', which are actually alcoves for the public to seek shelter.

Follow the trail for the Hilltop Walk along the Telok Blangah Hill Park, which was once a gathering place for trading communities in the area in the early nineteenth century. The Terrace Garden located at the top of the park features a 360-degree view of Singapore along the rows of bougainvillea.

The Hilltop Walk merges into the Forest Walk from beyond the Terrace Garden. Check out the wildlife and plants and witness the forest in all its glory at a comfortable eye-level within the forest canopy from the elevated bridge. Alternatively, the Earth trail will delight adventure-seekers with a more rugged trekking journey.

Walk along the Alexandra Arch linking the Forest Walk and Floral Walk. Cross this 80m long bridge and admire its unique architecture, mimicking an opened leaf across Alexandra Road, with its curved deck tilted at a 70-degree angle. In the evenings, the bridge is beautifully lit up, a complement of nature and technology.

Concluding the walk is the Floral Walk and Hort Park, Singapore's latest Garden, offering a showcase of gardening concepts and features designed for recreational, educational, research and retail activities in a complete park setting.

Lace up your walking shoes and embark on the Southern Ridges Walk for a day of recreation, leisure, exercise and getting acquainted with nature!
