Singapore River Cruises and Leisure

By: mckenwong on 14 Feb 2012

Launched in 1987, the Singapore River Cruise (SRC) provides visitors with relaxing sightseeing opportunities. Learn the history behind the bridges that span the Singapore River, as well as that of the historical buildings along the river banks, as your bumboat cruises past the financial district towards the Merlion. Immerse yourself in the atmosphere and ambience of the river as you sail past century-old godowns and shophouses, which stand in stark contrast to the striking skyscrapers of the downtown skyline.

The bumboats used by the SRC were once a common sight on the river, back when cargo was loaded and unloaded from the warehhouses by the shore. So, it's no surprise that a ride on the boats is popular with many tourists keen to get a taste of Singapore's maritime history, and experience a microcosm of Singapore's rich historical and cultural heritage

The SRC offers two different river cruises, both of which come with on-board commentaries.
