Tipping in Singapore

By: mckenwong on 11 Apr 2011

Tipping is generally not expected in Singapore unless you are feeling generous and want to tip an exemplary waiter.

Part of this is due to the 10% service charge that most restaurants impose (you can find it at the bottom of the bill). Some restaurants have chosen to remove the 10% charge, letting customers decide if they would like to leave a tip. So if you think a tip is deserved, go ahead. Note though that hawker centres do not impose such a charge and you are never expected to tip at a hawker centre.

Tipping taxi drivers is also not the norm though tipping the bell boy is acceptable; And NEVER tip anyone representing a government body!
