World Gourmet Summit 2012

An epicurean adventure awaits the discerning gourmand at the 16th World Gourmet Summit. Coming off the heels of Savour 2012, the biannual Restaurant Week and the Asian Masters, it’s not like Singapore has a lack of culinary festivals. However, none of these events can match the level of prestige and long-running history of the World Gourmet Summit. An annual gastronomic festival that celebrates the finest cuisines, best of wines and the most unique dining experiences, the World Gourmet Summit has put Singapore on the map as one of Asia’s top culinary destinations.

In 2012, the World Gourmet Summit returns from 23 April to 3 May with a smorgasboard of delights and events that will include a stellar cast of Michelin-starred chefs to internationally acclaimed vintners (winemakers). Embracing the theme ‘A Heritage of Flavours’, the summit’s festival programme pays homage to traditional cuisine all over the world while celebrating contemporary culinary methods and techniques with events held aptly at Singapore’s top heritage sites such as the historical Alkaff Mansion, Hotel Fort Canning, and the National Museum of Singapore. In line with the heritage theme, the festival’s international chefs will infuse traditional recipes with a modern twist while staying true to the ingredients from their very own culinary heritage.


The World Gourmet Summit 2012 will feature events that are the quintessential and enduring hallmarks of the festival. The vibrant 11-day spectacular will include an opening reception, wine masterclasses, special themed dinners prepared by celebrity chefs, and the perennial favourite, a Sunday sparkling brunch by the Norwegian Seafood Council and Meat & Livestock Australia. For the 12th year running, the festival will present its charity dinner in support of the Community Chest. New to the World Gourmet Summit this year is the Citibank Gastronomic Jam Sessions, a two-day event that will feature riveting back-to-back demonstrations of culinary techniques and trends by a host of top chefs at Resorts World Sentosa.

Each and every participating masterchef in the World Gourmet Summit has his or her own distinctive culinary styles, colourful personalities, and of course, exceptional culinary skill. Headlining the cast of luminaries is British chef Marco Pierre White. He will present his peerless cuisine at the Marco Pierre White Celebrity Chef Dinner on 27 April at Grand Hyatt Singapore.

If it's Michelin stars that turn you on, check out one of world-famous Spanish masterchef Dani García's three WGS events. Chef Anatoly Komm, notable for being the only Russian chef to be listed in the Michelin guide, will be whipping up a full Russian menu paired with delectable wines at the Indoguna Gala Dinner. A rising star in the European culinary scene, Danish chef Ronny Emborg will showcase his avant-garde approach to molecular and nouvelle cuisines at the special themed Intimate Singapore Experience dinner. Named “Chef of the Year” in 2007, Mr. Emborg will also be gracing another three events at the summit.
